At Korrektiv: The word of the day is… PARTHENOGENESIS. Assignment: Use as the last word on the first (fourth and seventh) line of a triolet.
My entry:
Oh, Father - No father! Damn parthenogenesis!
Taken forever, a most precious tie.
Denied the advantages, pluses, and benefits
Of having a father! For parthenogenesis,
A book full of curses! Just pick one, for any fits.
Crying for justice, in vain do I cry.
Each Father's Day blank - thanks to parthenogenesis,
I never can give him a most precious tie.
UPDATE 08/29/2011, 7:03 AM:
Remarks having been passed in the comments at Korrektiv, questioning the competence of some of the entrants, including me, I have thrown a conniption there, and shown that I can write a
properly-formed triolet if necessary:
Fatherless, feminist parthenogenesis:
Dark and mysterious instrumentality
Of lonely and cold generation; oh, whence come this
Fatherless, feminist parthenogenesis?
From some misandrous and grim-humored Nemesis
Down upon man falls this fatal finality:
Fatherless, feminist parthenogenesis,
Dark and mysterious instrumentality.
UPDATE 08/30/2011, 6:46 AM:
I misunderstood the remarks and my conniption was entirely unjustified. I have apologized at Korrektiv, and apologize here for creating a wrong impression.
(Also, in case anyone hasn't noticed, there is a typo in the second triolet: "come" in line 3 should, obviously, be "comes".)
The Authoress starts college today.
Thanks to everyone who put up prayers. Dad is home again, and doing as well as can be expected, and Mom is hanging in there. We (that is, their children) visit them whenever possible to help out; something to be said for having a large family - there's 9 of us. Continued prayers would be greatly appreciated, as, while they're both in good shape for their ages, still Dad will be 88 next month and Mom will be 82.
God bless you.
